#430; [Review] Maybelline Velvet Matte - Mat 6

In today's post, I will be reviewing the Maybelline Color Sensational Velvet Matte lipstick. I am always on the look out for more brands of liquid lipstick to try on ever since every brand has caught on to the trend. So when I was walking through Watsons, I spotted this Maybelline ones. Packaged in a clear plastic with a matte black cap, this caught my eye and I am absolutely thrilled to give it a try. I forgotten how much I bought this for since I actually bought it in Malaysia :x

After swatching a few shades from reds to nudes to pinks, I chose this berry pink - Mat 6. Recently I am drawn to magenta pinks because it flatters my skin tone. The Maybelline Velvet Matte has no shade names. Instead the shades are numbered and if I am not wrong, there are 9 shades in this collection.

The Maybelline Velvet Matte promises to be help retain moisture on your lips while giving a matte finish. The applicator is a flat and tapered to fit your lips. However, I prefer the conventional doe foot applicator because it is much more precise.

Btw, isn't the color so gorgeous?

Swatching the Maybelline Velvet Matte in Mat 6, it appears more reddish under bright lighting but is a beautiful berry pink in the tube as well as on lips. The formulation is of a cream consistency and feels smooth and buttery. It is almost reminiscent of the Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick.

Trying it out on my lips, this is as advertised. It really retains moisture and prevent my lips from being chapped. However, this product is a semi lie :< Firstly, it does not fully dry to a matte lip but I guess it is to be expected if it is moisture retaining. I just wish that they say it is a velvet liquid lipstick instead of velvet matte. Very misleading.

The colour is very flattering and would definitely fit most skin tone. The application can be quite tricky because of the unusual applicator. It is also a little difficult to apply it evenly because of the consistency of the formula. From the swatches it is evident that the applicator and the consistency cause it to be patchy in places while very pigmented in others.

I don't know if it was just me but my lips tingled slightly during the first few applications. I didn't quite like the feeling and was wondering if it was a defective batch.

Overall, the Maybelline Velvet Matte liquid lipstick are pretty moisturising. The colours and shades available are wearable and suitable for everyday use. However, they are not matte and should not be confused as so. The formulation of the shade I chose is also patchy while the applicator is hard to work with.

For the price paid, I would definitely choose the Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick even though the alternative is a little harder to find than the Maybelline one. I wouldn't repurchase this although the other shades are so pretty and tug at my heart strings.

However, if you are looking for a liquid lipstick that is a cream consistency then this is a good one to look out for, the next time you drop by at the drugstore.
